The Ultimate Styling Guide to Fall Family Portraits
And just like that, the weather is crisp, the days are shorter, and the colors are vibrant in the Pacific Northwest. Which means now is the time to book your Fall Family Portraits! We’ve put together a guide of our top three tips for styling your family to be camera ready…keep scrolling!
01. The key to chic coordination = understanding the color palette to allow for individual expression. Gone are the days of everyone showing up in matchy-matchy fits, however if not given enough guidance, it can quickly look like everyone is going a different direction with their wardrobe. It can be helpful to determine your color palette as a starting point. For example, we love how the Bean family chose a deep gray and camel brown as their two main colors with pops of navy and neutrals to give variety. It’s clear that everyone understood the assignment - choosing items of clothing that suited their personality while staying coordinated through their colors.
02. Play with a variety of silhouettes and textures through layering outerwear. Look no further than the Modha family for inspiration - these four chose chic base outfits and then brought fun jackets, vests, and shirts to layer on top for an incredibly simple bonus look during their studio portrait session. We are obsessed with the soft texture of the girls’ jacket and vest, and color pop of the parents’ jacket and shirt added to the cozy autumn vibes.
03. Style according to your vision. Are you embracing a Vogue-inspired editorial look that leans towards natural elements? We love the way Autumn and Rock (left) wore soft silhouettes and materials to mirror their setting. Are you loving a contemporary urban-inspired look with a nod to NYC street style? Alexa, Kendall, and Nolan (left) are the epitome of chic in their upscale neutral outfits!
