The #1 Tip for Timeless Portraits

Confession: I love a good micro-trend.

The things that go viral for approximately 12 seconds before becoming yesterdays news…I eat it up. There’s something so fabulously FUN about being right on top of a trend and riding the wave of it off into the sunset (like whipped coffee and sourdough starters). But sometimes the whiplash of micro-trends leave me feeling a bit overwhelmed when it comes to approaching things that I want to have lasting value. My coffee order? It might change on the daily. My family portraits? Now THOSE I would like to be timeless.

So, what’s our #1 tip for timeless photos?

Our #1 tip: combine fabulously formal attire with a chic black and white finish. A monochromatic look and feel allows for your wardrobe to be contemporary and the spotlight to remain on the emotion and milestone of the moment. Consider how old Hollywood portraits stand the test of time and critic. Even decade specific style takes a secondary position to the timeless posing, light, and finish that we see in the classics.

Another fabulous bonus of black and white portraits is the ability to cohesively display photos from different seasons and destinations next to each other on your walls. Rather than feeling like certain images don’t belong, the result of black and white photos throughout the years is chic and intentional.

When you photograph people in color, you photograph their clothes. When you photograph people in black and white, you photograph their souls.
